Bream Early Learners (BEL) is an independent not for profit registered charity, which has been serving families in the local community for over 53 years. We are an Ofsted ‘good’ rated preschool with our last inspection in April 2018 finding that our children ‘make good or better progress’ and that our staff team ‘create a very welcoming environment for children and their parents’.
Our history
How it all began
Bream Early Learners was established in 1965, and initially ran from the Rising Sun pub Bream’s function room. It later moved into the West Dean Centre after the junior and infant schools were amalgamated into Bream C of E Primary School. These every morning ‘pack away’ sessions were run by a PATA trained play leader and assistant, with parents of a rota system as was known as Bream Playgroup.
On June 17th, 1997 it became a registered charity. In 2001 the service moved from the West Dean Centre into the Beverly Casey Building, within the grounds of Bream C of E Primary School, operating out of one of the school’s old classrooms.
From 2010, BEL fundraised and applied for grants to purchase a new building as the Beverly Casey building was over 50 years old and had seen better days.
In May 2015 BEL celebrated 50 years of opening by holding a family fun day at the sports club, which was a huge success.
In September 2020 BEL opened the doors to a new two roomed building. Acorn class for the younger children and Oak class for the preschool children.
